Job Description

Summary

The Department: Information Security

Gemini is regulated and licensed like a bank, but it’s run like a tech startup, and technology is the core of the company. There’s a wide range of tough problems to solve at Gemini – from properly securing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of customer funds, to developing innovative new blockchain products, to finding new techniques to combat fraud, to shaving microseconds off our API response times, and everything in between.

All of Gemini’s engineers are able to work across the software platform, not just on their own specialization or subteam. We value a creative and collaborative process for developing and operating highly secure financial services, coupled with a pragmatic and efficient approach to problem solving.

The Role: Security Engineering Intern

As a member of our InfoSec engineering team, you’ll hunt for threats and vulnerabilities, and build security solutions to protect the company and its customers from cyber attacks engineered by the most sophisticated adversaries on the planet. There’s a wide range of possible security vulnerabilities that can expose us to these advanced threats. Our job is to identify and fix any vulnerabilities, detect and contain active threats, look ahead for emerging threats and build counter measures, and allow internal and external auditors to verify the effectiveness of our security controls. We have a strong culture of rigorous engineering, creative and robust solutions and a customer first mindset. We want to continue building the best and most trustworthy products we can as we scale and grow our business. If you get excited about defending high value assets from the most advanced adversaries on the planet, and solving technical challenges that directly impact our customers, clients, and the rest of the Gemini team, we’d love to hear from you. There are opportunities for application security, infrastructure security, client security, blockchain security, threat detection and response as well as GRC work depending on your interests and strengths.

This will be a 12-week summer internship program with 3 days a week in person at our New York City, NY office.

  1. Triage vulnerability reports and alerts to ensure that threat is real.
  2. Develop automation and scripts to reduce the workload for security work that may currently be manual.
  3. Improve our ability to identify vulnerabilities in code and infrastructure.
  4. Review other software engineers’ code for correctness, style, and information security concerns.
  5. Be on-call to receive security alerts which require immediate response, triage and containment working with best in class security engineers.

Qualifications:

  1. Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Associate’s, or Master’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering or comparable.
  2. A customer and product-focused mindset, with the ability to make well-reasoned tradeoffs between security, speed and quality.
  3. Interest and basic understanding of core Systems Administration and Software Engineering concepts.
  4. Learning to work collaboratively on a team and communicate in meetings.
  5. Effectively communicates work status to teammates and manager.
  6. Proactively asks questions and reaches out for help when stuck.
  7. Voices concerns or need for clarification to their manager.
  8. Accepts feedback graciously and learns from experience.
