Job Description
Summary
MetaMask is the leading self-custodial web3 wallet, empowering millions of people worldwide to interact with decentralized applications, trade assets, and participate in the evolving crypto ecosystem. We’re building products that make complex, high-stakes financial and on-chain interactions intuitive, safe, and accessible.
We’re looking for a Staff UX Researcher to drive strategic, mixed-methods research for the company, spanning product initiatives such as perpetuals trading, predictions, RWAs, sports betting, saving, remittances and crypto spending.
What you’ll do
As a Staff UX Researcher on the MetaMask team, you will own and lead the end-to-end research process for a complex product area that covers trading and personal finance. You will generate decision-quality insights that de-risk bets, shape product strategy, and accelerate execution across multiple product surfaces.
This is a high-impact, senior IC role for someone who is equally comfortable designing rigorous studies, synthesizing across data sources, and influencing senior stakeholders in a fast-moving environment.
Lead end-to-end mixed-methods research
- Plan, design, and execute full-cycle research (discovery, evaluative, generative, and strategic) using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Select and tailor the right methods (e.g., interviews, diary studies, usability tests, surveys, concept testing) to answer high-priority questions for the product and design team.
- Deliver robust, timely insights that are tightly aligned with product milestones and decision points.
- Communicate insights in compelling, digestible ways (presentations, workshops, artifacts, dashboards, narratives) tailored to different audiences, from Independent Contributors to Executives.
- Establish and evolve research best practices, processes, and templates that scale.
De-risk and accelerate product decisions
- Partner with Product, Design, Marketing, Data, and Engineering leads at MetaMask to define research questions, success criteria, and learning roadmaps.
- Translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations that directly influence roadmaps, feature definitions, and UX decisions.
- Identify and articulate trade-offs, risks, and opportunities grounded in user behavior and market context.
- Champion user-centered thinking in planning and prioritization forums, ensuring user impact is considered alongside technical and business constraints.
Identify cross-team opportunities and scale research
- Work across product lanes, and with other UX Researchers, to uncover shared user needs, overlapping journeys, friction points, and systemic UX issues.
- Help maintain a Continuous Discovery program that builds a durable, always-on understanding of MetaMask (and future) users.
- Contribute to a program of Designer Enablement; training designers, PMs and marketers to self-serve their own evaluative research. This involves coaching stakeholders and creating lightweight frameworks, guidelines, and tools.
- Mentor and support other researchers and cross-functional partners in sharpening research questions, methods, and interpretation.
Would be great if you brought this to the role
- 7+ years of hands-on UX research experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or staff-level role driving strategy in complex product areas.
- Deep experience with mixed methods research: strong qualitative craft and working knowledge of quantitative techniques, including survey design and basic statistics.
- Demonstrated success owning end-to-end research for multi-surface or multi-product ecosystems, ideally in fintech, trading, or similarly complex financial domains.
- Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and shaping product roadmaps through research in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Ability to translate nuanced, sometimes conflicting data into clear, prioritized recommendations.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with experience presenting to leadership and broad, cross-functional audiences.
- Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering closely with Product Management, Design, and Engineering.
Bonus Points
- You’ll be embedded within a specific MetaMask product team, collaborating daily with PMs, designers, engineers, product marketers, and data partners.
- You’ll report into the broader UX Research function, contributing to shared standards, knowledge repositories, and cross-lane initiatives.
- You’ll operate with a high degree of ownership and autonomy, responsible for prioritizing research that delivers maximum impact for both users and the business.
The salary range for US-based candidates only will be determined throughout the interview process depending on experience and skills.
