Job Description

Summary

As a Senior Engineer on the PoS Engineering team at Polygon Labs, you’ll focus on strengthening the peer-to-peer networking capabilities across all three of our core clients—Bor, Erigon, and Heimdall. This role is ideal for someone passionate about distributed systems and low-level networking, who wants to solve complex stability and connectivity challenges at scale.

Working closely with a high-caliber team of engineers across time zones, you will play a key role in ensuring the network reliability and performance of the Polygon PoS chain. You’ll take ownership of diagnosing and resolving hard-to-find issues in our peer-to-peer layer and will help us evolve our network topology to meet the next phase of growth.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Design, implement, and optimize peer-to-peer networking components in the Bor, Erigon, and Heimdall clients.
  2. Analyze and improve network stability by identifying peering bottlenecks, protocol edge cases, or propagation inefficiencies.
  3. Investigate incidents and contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) efforts related to network partitions, peer discovery failures, or gossip performance issues.
  4. Collaborate closely with internal protocol and infra teams to align client behavior with network goals.
  5. Contribute to client documentation and architecture discussions around networking layers and system resilience.
  6. Stay up to date with trends and developments in distributed systems and peer-to-peer infrastructure.

What You’ll Need

  1. 5+ years of experience in systems or infrastructure engineering, ideally working on distributed systems or blockchain clients.
  2. Deep expertise in Go (Golang), with strong knowledge of networking libraries, protocols (TCP/UDP), and debugging tools.
  3. Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems in live production systems with a proactive, ownership-first mindset.
  4. Experience working on peer-to-peer networking protocols or low-level infrastructure systems.
  5. Comfortable working in a remote, asynchronous environment across time zones (EMEA, East Coast US, or South America preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Prior experience working on blockchain or decentralized network infrastructure.
  2. Familiarity with the Ethereum ecosystem and Polygon PoS architecture.
  3. Exposure to multiple client implementations and consensus protocols.
  4. Strong written communication skills, especially around documenting technical findings or incident reviews.
