Summary

As Manager of the Security Team, you will be a member of the Poloniex engineering leadership team, reporting to the VP of Infrastructure, helping us secure, evolve, and grow our world-class cryptocurrency exchange, bringing the future of finance to emerging global markets. You will coach and mentor a diverse team of remote security engineers located in the United States, while collaborating with distributed teams across the globe. You will lead the Security Team, working closely with colleagues in Product, Engineering, Trust & Safety, Compliance, Customer Support, and other departments, to protect the funds of the company and our customers, maintain and grow Poloniexs reputation, and generally improve the companys security posture. This includes identifying and prioritizing security risks, providing education on secure coding skills, responding to security questionnaires, designing security features, identifying and remediating gaps in our security posture, working to improve fraud detection and data protection, and leading engineers to build security-related tools.

What youll be responsible for:

  • Grow and manage a team of distributed, security engineers
  • Coach and mentor team members on best security practices
  • Collaborate with executives and key stakeholders across our global engineering organization
  • Help set the future direction of security features, tools, and technologies
  • Drive new initiatives and make a real impact
  • Manage our bug bounty program
  • Participate in, and sometimes lead, incident responses
  • Use your security experience to stay on top of the newest security trends and ensure that Poloniex remains a security leader
  • Work closely with our Trust & Safety team to identify solutions to keep our customers data and funds secure
  • Perform typical managerial functions such as having regular 1:1 meetings and giving annual performance reviews

What youll bring to the team:

  • Experience leading a team of security engineers
  • Software development experience or extensive work supporting software developers
  • Intimate knowledge of the software development lifecycle, preferably as relating to financial websites
  • Ability to prioritize security requirements for a complex system
  • A delegative, mentoring leadership style
  • Strong understanding of securing complex web applications in a cloud environment (preferably AWS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (knowledge of Mandarin a bonus)
  • Proven ability to work with leaders and individual contributors of diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of crypto (or a strong passion for learning about it)
  • Team-first mindset and a strong desire to both teach and learn
  • Understanding of microservices and service-oriented architectures
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience utilizing logging tools (eg: AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, Elasticsearch) to create security alerts and perform security postmortems
  • Comfort shifting gears in response to changing industry standards and company priorities
  • Willingness to take meetings outside of regular business hours to accommodate people in different timezones

Salary:

$110k  to  $150k
