Job Description

Summary

MoonPay is looking for a Product and Regulatory Counsel who will be an integral part of the company's legal team, working to ensure the business is able to secure and maintain regulatory licensing that enables the business to thrive. This will entail (i) building a deep understanding of MoonPay’s products, (ii) being fully informed of relevant regulatory and policy developments, and (iii) advising on the practical impact of new laws and regulations in this developing space.

What you will do

  1. Advise on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues relating to new products in the digital asset and Web3 space, in the United States and internationally.
  2. Assist and advise on the company’s global licensing strategy, including leading licensing applications and working with internal stakeholders to manage existing licenses.
  3. Manage regulatory inquiries, examinations, and investigations.
  4. Proactively monitor and assess the impact of regulatory developments in order to devise product changes to future-proof core products and support the development of emerging products.
  5. Monitor, report and influence on a wide spectrum of issues, including consumer protection; data security, protection and privacy; anti-money laundering and licensing.
  6. Partner with the business on new product development and service enhancements.
  7. Provide creative, innovative, and effective legal solutions for business stakeholders on routinely short timelines.
  8. Be an outstanding collaborator and work cross-functionally with colleagues in legal, compliance, finance, product and business operations.

What you will need

  1. J.D. or LLM and active membership with a state bar and eligible to practice in any U.S. state.
  2. 7+ years of legal experience as outside counsel or in-house counsel (in-house counsel preferred but not required).
  3. Strong preference for crypto experience or technology start-up experience.
  4. Experience in cryptocurrency-related regulatory advice is preferred – but it is essential that this candidate is excited about having a seat at the table of history on developing legal jurisprudence around Web3.
  5. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams on strategic partnerships.
  6. Experience advising clients on risk mitigation across technology product platforms.
  7. Knowledge and experience with SEC, CFTC, money transmission licenses, and e-money licenses or other state or federal financial regulatory agencies (e.g., NYDFS) are a plus.
  8. Excellent communications skills are critical. Provide crisp and practical legal advice and synthesize complex regulatory constructs succinctly and effectively, especially in circumstances where application of the law to the underlying technology and related products is unclear.
  9. Ability to identify issues and suggest enhancements to form agreements, policies, procedures, and processes and help scale as the company grows.
  10. Ability to navigate through legal ambiguity with a high degree of focus.
