Job Description

Summary

We are hiring an IT Operations Engineer to integrate, administer, and maintain the systems that keep OP Labs running smoothly — Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, and an evolving suite of AI-powered tools including Claude and other LLM platforms.

OP Labs is a remote-friendly company with a growing NYC office, and this role will be based in the NYC office. You'll play a critical role across our entire portfolio of endpoint devices, third-party applications, and AI systems — enabling all Optimists to work more efficiently, productively, and collaboratively, while maintaining our high security bar.

What are the role responsibilities?

  1. Lead the implementation and operation of our IT infrastructure, from hardware to software to AI tooling.
  2. Administer and optimize AI platforms company-wide, including Claude and other LLM-based tools — managing access, usage policies, integrations, and cost controls.
  3. Implement corporate device and application management policies in collaboration with our People and Legal teams, including policies governing AI tool usage and data handling.
  4. Act as the service owner for multiple company-wide SaaS applications, including AI-powered productivity and developer tools.
  5. Act as a solutions architect and strategist for the applications and services OP Labs relies upon, with a forward-looking perspective on where AI fits into our stack.
  6. Lead projects to audit and optimize our SaaS and AI portfolio, focusing on improvements to security, permissions, automation, scalability, end-user experience, and license usage.
  7. Own the setup and upkeep of office collaboration infrastructure, including conference room AV equipment, video calling hardware, and network/WiFi reliability — ensuring remote and in-person Optimists can connect seamlessly.
  8. Develop programs and processes to communicate and drive adoption of new IT product features company-wide, including onboarding Optimists to tools effectively and safely.
  9. Evaluate new tools and capabilities as they emerge, and make recommendations on adoption, consolidation, or deprecation.

What skills do you bring?

  1. 2+ years of relevant technical experience in system administration or engineering.
  2. Expertise managing Google Workspace and other enterprise productivity applications (e.g., Slack, GitHub).
  3. Hands-on experience administering AI platforms such as Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), or similar — including access management, usage monitoring, and policy enforcement.
  4. Ability to plan, manage, code, and support multiple concurrent projects and initiatives.
  5. Strong project and task management skills.
  6. Comfort working in a fast-paced, fully remote environment across teams.
  7. Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, or Go.

Nice to haves

  1. Experience building automations or workflows that incorporate LLM APIs (e.g., Anthropic API, OpenAI API).
  2. Experience working with REST API endpoints leveraging various authentication methods (OAuth, JWT, API keys/secrets, etc.).
  3. Google Professional Workspace Administrator or Professional Collaboration Engineer Certification.
  4. Experience with GCP or other cloud providers.
  5. Slack Admin and/or Developer Certification.
  6. Familiarity with AI security and compliance considerations (data residency, prompt injection risks, shadow AI, etc.).
