The team

Kraken is on a mission to build the most trusted bridge between crypto and traditional finance. We’re looking for a seasoned backend integrations engineer who thrives in designing secure, scalable systems, and is passionate about reinventing financial systems from the ground up. In this role, you'll work on core systems that power our payment integrations and treasury operations, while working at the intersection of crypto and fiat rails.

The opportunity

1. Design and implement scalable backend services that integrate with banking APIs, payment processors, blockchain networks, and internal financial systems
2. Build and maintain intuitive frontend interfaces using React and React Native for both internal tools and customer-facing experiences related to financial operations.
3. Develop reusable libraries, APIs, and tooling that streamline interactions between systems, platforms, and stakeholders.
4. Own and evolve critical components of Kraken’s financial infrastructure
5. Build robust workflows to ensure auditability, compliance, and financial accuracy across all integrated platforms.
6. Collaborate closely with stakeholders across Finance, Product, Compliance, and Engineering to understand requirements and deliver full-stack solutions.
7. Monitor production systems for reliability and performance, proactively addressing any issues across the stack.
8. Maintain strong unit and integration test coverage and deliver comprehensive documentation to support long-term maintainability and scalability.

Skills you should HODL

1. 3+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend systems and exposure to frontend development.
2. Proven ability to write clean, production-grade TypeScript/Node.js services and React/React Native applications.
3. Experience working with financial platforms, banking integrations, or other regulated systems at scale.
4. Solid understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, RPC protocols, and streaming data pipelines (e.g. Kafka).
5. Security-first mindset when designing and deploying systems that handle sensitive financial data.
6. Comfortable debugging issues across the entire stack — from frontend performance to backend infrastructure.
7. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
8. Ownership mentality with a passion for delivering high-quality, reliable financial systems.
9. Bonus: Experience in FinTech, crypto finance, or integrations with core banking, treasury, or accounting platforms.
