Job Description
Summary
About the team + role
We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world’s biggest financial problems. We’re looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn’t a place for complacency, it’s where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We’re a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.
The Capacity & Efficiency Engineering team sits within Core Engineering and is responsible for building software that governs, attributes, forecasts, and reduces Robinhood’s AWS cloud spend. The team operates at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, data engineering, performance engineering and FinOps, with direct ownership over company-level cost metrics and consistent executive visibility. Their work ensures cloud resources are used efficiently, costs are attributable to the right owners, and inefficiencies are detected and addressed early!
As the Engineering Manager, Capacity and Efficiency Engineering, you will lead a team of engineers and partner closely with Data Science, Technical Program Management, Infrastructure, and Product teams. You’ll guide technical direction across capacity governance and efficiency initiatives, balance accountability with empathetic people leadership, and ensure your team delivers software that measurably reduces cloud waste while improving cost transparency across the organization.
This role is based in our Bellevue, WA office, with in-person attendance expected at least
4 days per week.
At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.
What you’ll do
- Build and lead a team that develops software to detect, track, attribute, and reduce AWS cloud costs across services, workloads, and teams
- Guide the design and delivery of internal systems for cost attribution, chargeback/showback, anomaly detection, and capacity forecasting
- Partner with Data Science to create year-over-year forecasts, expected growth models, and unit economics that proactively flag cost risks
- Lead initiatives to identify over-provisioned or unused infrastructure, and work with partner teams to right-size Kubernetes workloads, managed services, and databases
- Hold teams accountable for cost regressions by ensuring ownership is clearly identified, explanations are documented, and remediation is tracked through completion
What you bring
- Experience managing and developing engineers, including setting clear goals, providing feedback, and supporting career growth
- Hands-on experience running cloud-native systems on AWS, with a strong understanding of cloud cost models and capacity planning
- Practical knowledge of Kubernetes efficiency, infrastructure right-sizing, and cost reduction strategies
- Experience building or operating systems related to FinOps, cloud governance, or infrastructure efficiency
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to navigate cost accountability conversations with partner teams and leaders
Leadership expectations
Our ambitious roadmap requires a great culture shaped by exceptional leaders. Here’s what we expect from them:
- Drive high performance by setting clear, focused goals, giving real-time feedback, stretching top talent, and scaling impact through focus, innovation, and tech.
- Hire and retain top talent by setting a high bar, hiring only those who raise it, investing in onboarding, and addressing talent issues quickly and fairly.
- Create community by connecting work to purpose, removing friction while prioritizing safety, building trust and inclusion, and leading from the front with integrity.
