The team

The Banking team is part of Kraken’s Treasury team, within the Finance organization, and is responsible for all partnerships with Banks and Financial Services institutions worldwide. We source, manage, maintain and strengthen partnerships with banks, and key financial institutions to drive Kraken’s business growth and expansion in furtherance of our mission.

The team directly drives customer growth, revenues and transactional volumes on the Kraken platform and is a key stakeholder with the launch of new products and services in existing and new geographies.

Kraken is growing and expanding. To help fuel this growth requires world class banking and financial services relationships and infrastructure to enable our customers and clients to smoothly transact on the Kraken platform. In this role, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Banking senior manager to lead, manage and prioritize the implementation of partnerships with global banks and financial services institutions.

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in delivering and managing the full suite of crypto banking services required for all Kraken products, services ensuring all transactions are securely completed successfully. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally in all geographies, source, structure and then manage these partnerships on an ongoing basis.

We are looking for an entrepreneurially minded crypto-enthusiast to implement our banking strategy, establish commercial partnerships and manage the operational processes to support them, and manage our banking efforts worldwide.

The opportunity

  1. Build and maintain strong relationships with all banks and financial services partners
  2. Build and manage relationships with key bank partners, including financial institutions, banks, large corporations, and platforms that handle significant money movement
  3. Serve as the primary point of contact for all banking partners, fostering collaboration and managing any issues that may arise
  4. Contribute to shaping Kraken’s banking strategy and identify high-impact opportunities
  5. Articulate key value drivers and considerations for potential partnership opportunities in concise deal memos
  6. Build consensus across Leadership and the wider organisation for the key banking partners and partnerships
  7. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive execution and continuous progress of key initiatives and geo-expansion
  8. Lead negotiations with bank and FI partners around quality of services provided, fees, costs, interest bearing accounts
  9. Establish commercial relationships with all partners within timeframes required to support all product and new geos market launches
  10. Own, lead and negotiate all commercial contractual terms, agreements, and addendums with banking partners to ensure favorable terms for Kraken
  11. Regularly review existing agreements to identify opportunities for improvement or renegotiation
  12. Articulate key value drivers and considerations for potential partnership opportunities in concise deal memos; build consensus across Leadership and the wider organization
  13. Manage partnerships with an operational cadence--metrics and qualitative feedback--to ensure an effective working relationship that allows for continued operations and expansion of services
  14. Oversee, enable and provide required banking services to ensure smooth client transactions, optimize treasury, liquidity management ensuring timely and accurate processing of all client transactions at all times
  15. Work closely with all internal teams to streamline transaction workflows and resolve any issues related to client deposits and withdrawals across all products and services
  16. Contribute to enhancing the Banking function by identifying opportunities to improve processes, drive efficiency and automation
  17. Build an extensive network and maintain meaningful relationships to stay on top of key trends and industry developments
  18. Proficiently communicate the value of working with Kraken to potential partners
  19. Monitor and assess potential risks associated with existing banking partners, their impact to client transactions and proactively propose mitigating measures
  20. Collaborate with the risk, security and audit teams to manage relevant assessments and strategies related to banking and payment processes

Skills you should HODL

  1. 4+ years of experience in partnerships, relationship management and account management in banking, transaction banking or financial services focused on cryptocurrencies, payments, FX
  2. Passion for and knowledge of cryptocurrency markets and the unique challenges associated with banking services in the cryptocurrency environment
  3. Familiar with how corporate banks and financial institutions work and their decision makers. You're excellent at managing these relationships and constantly creating opportunities to improve them
  4. Intellectually curious with a strong understanding of the crypto industry with an emphasis on banking, payments, FX, investments, geographic expansion
  5. Strong network within the banking and payments industry
  6. Strong ability to drive consensus and coordinate process with a diverse group of cross-functional stakeholders in legal, product, engineering, and beyond
  7. Proven track record of closing multiple high value partnership deals from origination through integration and ongoing management for successful growth
  8. Exceptional commercial acumen, outstanding negotiator and product instinct. Able to independently negotiate most ideal terms with clear product vision and understanding in mind and can figure out the ideal operational and commercial process with every new partner
  9. Strong ability to drive consensus and coordinate process with a diverse group of cross-functional stakeholders in finance, treasury, legal, product, engineering, operations, marketing, business development, M&A and beyond
  10. Experience in building financial models, revenue projections, and business plans
  11. Excellent communicator, storyteller, and presenter
  12. Process orientated with a keen attention to detail
  13. Creative and strategic thinker with a knack for problem solving
  14. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  15. Exceptional communication, written, negotiation & presentation skills
