What you’ll do

1. Reporting to our Legal Director of Commercial, Dispute Resolution and Employment, you will be our sole Malaysia-based lawyer prioritising all day-to-day Malaysian legal matters.
2. While this is a generalist role, you will ideally prioritise any Malaysian employment and/or litigation matters.
3. You will secondarily support on general commercial matters internationally, including reviewing contracts and negotiating with counterparties.
4. You will also secondarily support on regulatory and corporate matters locally, although you are not expected to have prior expertise in these areas.
5. You will help lead our efforts to manage external law firms including their engagement, review of work, approval of fees and on-going case management.
6. Engage in training for the company to increase legal awareness throughout the organisation on how to manage risks particularly for Malaysia. 

What you’ll need

1. Graduated with a common law degree from a reputable university.
2. Qualified Malaysian lawyer with 5-15 PQE legal experience.
3. Experience from reputable law firms and, ideally, also reputable in-house organisations.
4. Based in Malaysia, ideally Kuala Lumpur.
5. Start-up experience is preferred, especially demonstrable experience in handling complex legal matters in fast-paced and exacting situations. 
6. Has the ability to work independently, take ownership of work and make tough decisions. 
7. Excellent legal drafting and interpretation skills.
8. Excellent command of written and spoken English, and business proficiency in Mandarin Chinese strictly required.
