As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank in Markets technology Securitized products, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job responsibilities

  1. Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  2. Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  3. Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  4. Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  5. Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  6. Own the delivery of value-add activities leading a scrum team and be an active member governing the overall platform.
  7. Being able to engineer a suite of performant, scalable and reusable RESTful micro-services and APIs using Python along with championing quality and owning the non-functional requirements. 
  8. Collaborate with the team to form the sprints that will get us to the MVP and then finally the target state.
  9. Act as a Lead developer who will help set direction and best practice around automated testing, platform framework, SDLC as well as acting a point of contact for more junior developers to give them guidance on best practices.
  10. Collaborate with other backend developers to get involved with code reviews and building up our suite of microservices components to facilitate faster development
  11. Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  1. Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience
  2. Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  3. Advanced in one or more programming language(s) Python
  4. Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods. Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  5. Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
  6. Experience building and maintaining a Microservices architecture.
  7. Knowledge of the Python web frameworks (example Flask, Tornado, Bottle) and relational database.
  8. Experience in developing, debugging and automated testing (e.g. PyUnit) within a commercial setting
  9. Experience in leading an agile delivery team leveraging scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives and reporting progress to senior stakeholders.
  10. Experience collaborating with frontend technology teams in designing scalable and reusable RESTful APIs
  11.  

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  1. Exposure to python libraries such as pandas, scipy and numpy
  2. Exposure to python concurrency through python multiprocessing would be an advantage.
  3. Experience in working within Investment Bank / Finance Technology
  4. Knowledge of the financial products (e.g. Fixed Income Securities, Structured products, Derivatives etc.)
