The Role:
Lead, Compliance
The Lead, Compliance will be responsible for overseeing the company’s compliance framework, ensuring regulatory compliance with AUSTRAC, ASIC, and other relevant bodies. The role involves developing policies, monitoring transactions for financial crime risks, and ensuring our exchange operates with integrity and transparency.
Responsibilities:
- Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain a robust compliance framework aligned with AUSTRAC, ASIC, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
- Ensure adherence to anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF), and other financial crime regulations.
- Keep up to date with evolving regulatory requirements in Australia and globally, advising leadership on potential impacts.
- Act as the primary point of contact with regulators, auditors, and external compliance stakeholders.
- Risk Management & Monitoring
- Oversee and enhance transaction monitoring, customer due diligence (CDD), and know-your-customer (KYC) processes.
- Identify and mitigate compliance risks related to digital asset trading, including fraud prevention and cybersecurity threats.
- Conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews to ensure ongoing regulatory adherence.
- Policy Development & Implementation
- Design and implement company-wide policies on AML/CTF, sanctions screening, and data privacy.
- Ensure employees are trained on compliance obligations, ethics, and industry best practices.
- Develop and enforce reporting procedures for suspicious activity and regulatory filings.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead the compliance team and provide guidance to executive leadership on compliance matters.
- Collaborate with legal, product, and technology teams to ensure compliance is embedded in business operations.
- Represent the company in industry forums, working groups, and regulatory discussions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field (Master’s or compliance certifications preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in financial services compliance, with at least 3 years in crypto, fintech, or blockchain-related firms.
- Deep understanding of Australian financial regulations, including AUSTRAC, ASIC, and global regulatory trends in digital assets.
- Proven track record in AML/CTF compliance, risk management, and regulatory engagement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving industry with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
- Experience with blockchain analytics tools (e.g., Chainalysis, Elliptic) and compliance software is a plus.
