Summary

As an Engineering Manager of Data Services, you will be a trailblazer, building and leading a high-performing engineering team. Your team will initially focus on building a self-served, exa-byte scale Data Services for ingestion, stream data processing, serving. You will set a high technical bar, champion Roblox's leadership principles, and drive the delivery of innovative products that delight our users.

You Will:

1. Build and Lead: Attract, hire, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of exceptional engineers. Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone thrives.
2. Set the Bar: Establish and maintain a high standard for technical excellence. Ensure your team delivers reliable, scalable, and secure solutions that adhere to Roblox's engineering principles.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers,data engineers, data scientists and other stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
4. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the overall engineering strategy for Roblox. Find opportunities for innovation and growth, and prioritize projects that deliver the most value to our users.
5. Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement within your team. Encourage experimentation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of new technologies.

You Have:

1. Proven Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and scaling engineering teams, ideally in a high-growth environment.
2. 2+ years of experience in engineering management - setting roadmap, charter, vision, key metrics for the engineering team
3. Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of data principles, architectures, and technologies.
4. 8+ years of experience with big data tools and technologies like Kafka, Flink, Druid, Spark, optimized Sql, Map Reduce, HDFS, Hive
5. Experience with programming languages like Golang, Java, Python, Helm, Terraform
6. Experience working with Cloud providers like AWS - S3, EMR, EKS
7. A graduate degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is a plus
8. Roblox Alignment: Strong alignment with Roblox's leadership principles, including a focus on respect, safety, creativity, and community.
9. Excellent Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build rapport with team members, stakeholders, and leaders across the organization.
10. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to break down complex challenges and develop creative solutions.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
